The story of Abraham always intrigues me and encourages me. I read this bible verse this morning and it gave me such hope for the people who I meet on a daily basis who face many challenges in life. It gave me hope for the challenges that I face as well. We all go through challenges and different experiences which require perseverance.

Romans 4:18-21

18 There was no hope that Abraham would have children. But Abraham believed God and continued hoping. And that is why he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “Your descendants will also be too many to count.”[a] 19 Abraham was almost 100 years old, much past the age for having children. Also, Sarah could not have children. Abraham thought about all this. But his faith in God did not become weak. 20 He never doubted that God would keep his promise. Abraham never stopped believing. He grew stronger in his faith and gave praise to God. 21 Abraham felt sure that God was able to do the thing that God promised.

It’s not normal to live apart as a family but with wars in countries, economic decline and political persecution families become separated. The news is currently filled with families from Syria who have left everything behind with the hope of a new life and a new start. At times they get separated and then wait for years to become reunited. There are many nationalities that are separated due to economic reasons.

Abraham was given a promise when he was 75 years old. He had to wait 25 years for the fulfilment of the promise. How many of us have to wait for 25 years for the fulfilment of a promise given by God. You might have received a promise that you will be reunited with your children one day. The years have dragged on and on and it seems like it will never happen. You might be holding onto the promise that you will bear children or get married.
Hope 2
In the natural it seriously looked impossible. Sarah could not have children and Abraham was way past the age of having children. He did try his own plan B but that went horribly wrong. It caused chaos and confusion. I love the fact that Abraham was just like a lot of us that we get impatient and try to sort it out and help God to bring the promise to fruition more quickly.

Abraham never doubted that God would keep his promise. Abraham never stopped believing. He grew stronger in his faith and gave praise to God. Abraham felt sure that God was able to do the thing that God promised.

That is my encouragement for someone today! Don’t give up. Hold onto the promises that God has given you for your life. Even if everything in the natural looks like it’s working against you, the situation might be really bleak and it looks like everything is going wrong. Hold on!

During the period of waiting your faith in God will grow stronger, your character will develop and sometimes waiting is the best thing because it helps develop the character of God in us.

Stay positive and continue to believe God for your breakthrough. Refuse to give up and you will see the results of your positive belief.
